The competition is international and is intended for high-school students of four elder grades (8-11 grades in Russia). It holds annually in two rounds: a qualification round per correspondance and a final round.
The competition is open: any foreign high-school student can participate. The qualification round takes place from january to march each year.

The International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) is an annual science fair and is owned and administered by the Society for science and public based in Washington, DC. Each May, more than 1500 students from roughly 70 countries and territories compete in the fair for scholarships, tuition,grants,internships, scientific field trips and the grand prizes, including one $75,000 and two $50,000 collage scholarships.

It is one of the most reputed worldwide science competitions. The competition is open to 13- to 18-year-old students around the globe, who formulate a hypothesis, perform an experiment, and present their results.Entries are judged on eight core criteria, which include the student's presentation, question, hypothesis, research, experiment, data, observations, and conclusion.
